SEPTEMBER 2024

Our journey begins here - Southern Kenya in Maasailand

After another trip to Kenya, where I visited the school and my dear friend Sana, I felt inspired to explore the possibility of establishing a small business or social enterprise with the local Maasai women to showcase and sell their exquisite beadwork.

The lives of Maasai women can be incredibly challenging, and I am passionate about empowering them to create sustainable businesses.

I have been successfully selling their beautiful creations online and at craft markets in the UK for some time now.

In our group of 31 women, we ensure that all profits are shared equally among the members. It brings me great joy to help these remarkable women, many of whom lack formal education, earn a living and support their families.

Looking ahead, I envision a future where they can operate their own business in Kenya, though achieving this will require significant time and resources. Each woman in the group expresses their gratitude with "Ashe Oleng," which means "Thank you so much" in their Maa language.

Empowering Maasai mothers

Eripare is a new social enterprise with a simple, yet profound, aim: to provide a modest and much-needed income for Kenyan Maasai mothers. Profits from their beautiful beadwork are distributed equally among the women every quarter, offering a lifeline in challenging circumstances.

The artistry of Maasai beadwork

Each piece of beadwork is handmade by the Maasai ladies, who thoughtfully choose the beads and colours. Every shade and pattern holds a special meaning, reflecting their rich culture and personal expression. This traditional artistry, passed down through generations, makes each item a unique treasure.

Making a tangible difference

The lives of Maasai women in this region are incredibly challenging. Poverty is widespread, adult illiteracy is common, and basic rights are minimal. Eripare provides these women with hope and a chance to better their lives and the lives of their families. Your purchase directly contributes to their financial independence and empowerment. All the ladies buy food and clothes for their families and other local families.

"The beadwork I bought from Eripare is not just beautiful; it tells a story of strength and tradition. Knowing my purchase directly supports these incredible women makes it even more special."
